Vaccination notice

Canine Influenza Virus

Due to the highly contagious and virulent nature of Canine Influenza Virus, Cape Cod Animal Hospital recommends all healthy dogs 8 weeks of age and older be immunized now — before we experience the epidemic documented in other states.

Even if you don’t plan on boarding, the vaccine is highly recommended: dogs may be exposed unknowingly at parks, pet stores, groomers, veterinary facilities or just a walk around the block. Call to schedule during regular hours (8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Mon.–Sat.).

The vaccination requires an initial series of two vaccines given 2–4 weeks apart, then an annual booster. Cost is $21 per injection (initial series $42.00), plus tech appointment and hazardous waste disposal fee.

Our veterinarians

Meet the doctors.

Dr. Scott Munson

Dr. Scott Munson

Scott Munson is a native of Massachusetts, growing up in Weston. “When your father is a veterinarian, your next pet is always a delightful surprise. Dad brought home some wonderful homeless pets through his many years on staff at the old Angell Memorial Animal Hospital.” Dr. Munson earned his BA in biology from Washington and Jefferson College and then followed in both his father’s and uncle’s footsteps by earning his veterinary medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He also completed a post-doctorate internship at Angell Memorial Animal Hospital before entering private practice. Following a five-year tenure at a large 24 hour facility on the South Shore, Dr. Munson continued his career in emergency medicine and relief work.

In 1994, Dr. Munson purchased Cape Cod Animal Hospital and Cape Cod Farm Kennel from Dr. Bill Laughlin. He enjoys the variety of feline and canine general practice with particular interests in orthopedic disorders, dermatology, endocrinology and ophthalmology.

Dr. Heidi McMorrow with a golden retriever

Dr. Heidi McMorrow

Heidi McMorrow grew up in Oklahoma with a multitude of pets — “if it had 4 legs and fur, you can bet we had it for a pet.” From a very young age, Dr. McMorrow knew she wanted to be a veterinarian. She attended Oklahoma State University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in physiology and a doctorate in veterinary medicine. Following graduation, Dr. McMorrow moved to the East Coast to pursue her career in small animal veterinary medicine and surgery. In 1995, following 8 years of practice at a large 24 hour facility on the South Shore, she joined Cape Cod Animal Hospital.

Dr. McMorrow is a past recipient of the Hartz Veterinarian of the Year Award for her work with a local animal shelter in establishing and providing pro bono services for the shelter’s spay and neuter clinic. She enjoys all aspects of general practice including internal medicine, soft tissue surgery and small mammal medicine (rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, etc.).

A short history of Cape Cod Animal Hospital

Caring for Cape Cod’s family pets since 1932.

Since 1932 Cape Cod Animal Hospital has been taking care of generations of family pets in the mid-Cape area. Dr. Leach founded CCAH in 1932.

On March 9th, 2009 an explosion and horrific fire engulfed the hospital. Cape Cod Animal Hospital never really ceased operations: from treating pets from the back of an SUV, to the generosity of IFAW and their medical trailer, to the quick construction of temporary modular units — and then moving into our newly constructed hospital in the Spring of 2010, what a year it had been!
